Diet – It’s not a phase

‘It’s just too hard… I just don’t have the time… I don’t know where to start!’ Yep I’ve heard them all and more; food and diet has always been a mystery to most and there’s plenty of reasons as to why. BUT it doesn’t need to be and for good reason… it’s actually really easy and could take a lot less time than you think!

For most the idea of weighing out all your food and googling the calorie content of an avocado (160cals per 100g, you’re welcome) seems like the worlds biggest pain in the neck, but it need not be, there are actually plenty of apps out there today that will do this for you, plus so many other things such as food and hydration diaries, exercise logs and training planners. The point is, there is a way to help yourself overcome the anxiety of starting what seems to be such a huge task, and that is to break it down into its base components and start off small and slow.

This is where these tracker apps come in handy as does the good old fashioned pen and paper, maybe week one write a basic food diary, something as simple as what I ate and when I ate it no measurements or weighing scales just this is what I have each day; this is a steppingstone and for good reason it gives you a starting point and clarity to actually what you are putting into your body and when. From this we start to develop a data stream and flesh out the details with these trends, we can then start to see what where and when we need to make these changes.

This is where now we can address the issue of time management you will find that there will be days where lunch is on the go but we can now look at when that is and how we can come up with a solution to this problem. Food preparation! So we have this idea that it’s all about allocating our entire weekend off to cook food for the week ahead, this is simply not true. Batch cooking needn’t be a bore or a chore most of the time you don’t even need to be around whilst this is happening something as simple as a slow cooker and a rice cooker will save you not only time but effort too. If you have not just a busy work life but home life too then this is a time saver!
